Since the Nineties, the non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity has been active in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region helping people around the world to build or improve a place, they can call home. With offices in 70 countries, HFHI works closely with local communities and businesses. Habitat for Humanity believes that every person should have access to affordable and secure, healthy, and sustainable housing. No person should be excluded socially or from access to housing associated services.
Building together – Why Xella supports Habitat for Humanity
The Xella Group is much more than an employer of 5200 employees at 22 international locations. We are also a responsible neighbor to all residents, a discussion partner for social initiatives, and a helper in times of need. These are some reasons why we are supporting the international organization Habitat for Humanity.

"2.8 billion people in the world don't have access to adequate housing. And we are currently also seeing increased need in regions that were previously less impacted, as even Europe is experiencing a housing crisis now", explains Sascha Meyer, Head of Corporate Cooperation at Habitat for Humanity Germany.
Three-year contract signed
As a company, we attach great importance to assuming social responsibility in addition to our economic activities. Therefore, we are expanding our social commitment and have entered a three-year cooperation with Habitat for Humanity Germany via their Hopebuilder initiative. The Hopebuilders are companies from the construction and real estate sector who support Habitat for Humanity’s work in different projects. This cooperation includes financial support as well as the provision of building materials, in particular providing building material for a housing project in Slovakia. These blocks will mainly be used for the renovation of the Opportunity Center’s canteen and laundry. The project is expected to be completed by 2025. "The project will form a sustainable cornerstone for a long-lasting cooperation between our companies", Sascha Meyer from Habitat for Humanity says.

"When talking about sustainability, people often are focusing on products and processes. But sustainability is multidimensional. It is important to know what role we play locally in the community and in the society, and to act as a responsible citizen", Cécile Fages, Chief Sustainability and Communications Officer, says.
