Site Portrait: Mios

Since its founding in 1989, the Mios plant has undergone significant transformations, continuously evolving to meet industry demands and environmental challenges. One of its most recent developments is the installation of a new sand mill, a key investment aimed at enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

Key Facts & Figures

Workforce: 27 employees + 3 working students
Operations: 3 shifts (Sunday night to Saturday morning)
Product Range: 26 different types of AAC blocks
Certifications: ISO 9001/14001 and NF (Normes françaises)

Mios is a small commune near the Western coast of France, a few kilometers south of Bordeaux. Our autoclaved aerated concrete plant has been in operation here since 1989. There are approximately 26 AAC products produced at the Mios plant, primarily intended for individual home construction, including building blocks for partition walls and fire-resistant walls.

Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

The plant continues to prioritize sustainability, placing a strong focus on reducing its environmental footprint, particularly through reuse of leftovers. Looking ahead, the team is actively exploring ways to optimize energy consumption. Xavier Mussotte started in January 2025 as the new plant manager in Mios and takes on these new challenges:
“Before taking on the big challenges, the first thing I needed to do was to fully understand the industrial process. The second was getting to know all my colleagues at the plant while getting familiar with the safety culture, which is my top priority. Now that the foundations are in place, my team and I are ready to take on the challenges ahead. Our biggest one currently is gas consumption, which is our primary expense. To address this, we are implementing initiatives such as installing condensers to reuse hot water for heating both the plant and production processes.”

Investments & Technological Advancements

A first step towards these goals has been made with a recent investment. To enhance production processes, the plant integrated a new sand mill in its production. Xavier Mussotte highlights the significance of this investment: “The new mill is expected to optimize our production processes, improve product quality, and contribute to our overall efficiency goals.”

Strong cooperation with the local sales department

Beyond its operations, the Mios plant plays an active role in promoting autoclaved aerated concrete construction for individual housing, supporting the local sales in their message for sustainable, high-quality building solutions within the local community. The local sales team is at the forefront of these efforts, strengthening the plant’s market presence.

Supporting Future Talent

The Mios plant is committed to fostering the next generation of industry professionals. Each year, it welcomes working students in various departments, such as the laboratory and maintenance.
“Investing in young talent is crucial for the future of our industry,” Xavier Mussotte emphasizes. “By working closely with graduates from schools and universities, we help develop skills and strengthen the local workforce.”
