The organizers, partners and supporters of the Children and Architecture project gathered at FAD STU to select the most beautiful and original artworks submitted to the 11th edition of the nationwide art competition.
Once again, the competition attracted more than 600 entries from all corners of Slovakia. The artworks, submitted by teachers and parents on behalf of pupils, captivated the jury from the very beginning. Many children portrayed not only buildings from their surroundings but also imagined how these could be renewed or reimagined. Some included short written stories, capturing the history or meaning behind the buildings they chose.
Although the organizers originally planned to award 20 artworks, the jury was so impressed by the creativity, attention to detail and originality of the entries that 22 winners were ultimately selected. The theme of this year’s competition, "From Old to New", was clearly reflected in the works, as young artists shared imaginative visions of how to renovate and breathe new life into their neighborhoods.
The jury faced a difficult task: each piece was full of color, ideas and unique interpretations of the theme. In the end, three main prizes were awarded, along with two special prizes, the organizer's prize, the prize from the project’s author, and 15 additional awards granted by the project’s partners and supporters.
Two-day celebration in Bratislava
To honor their achievement, the winning children were invited to Bratislava for a two-day celebration. On 11 April 2025, a festive awards ceremony was held in the cinema hall of the Slovak National Gallery. The following day, the young artists took part in a thematic architectural walk through the city - complete with a children train ride - guided by professionals in architecture and construction.
The 11th edition of the Children and Architecture project once again proved that young minds can see familiar places through a fresh lens, and that the future of architecture can be imagined in the most colorful and unexpected ways.
