URSA materials in new Business School in Madrid

In October the new headquarters of the ESIC Marketing and Business School in Madrid opened its doors, which has expanded its facilities to accommodate more than 4,000 students. The huge project is applying for an awardfor its focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.

09 February, 2022

The Project comprising 23,600 square meters of educational space and a further 9,500 square meters of landscaped and recreational areas hosts 40 classrooms, an auditorium, work and meeting rooms and parking for cars and bicycles. An astounding amount of more than 13,500 meters of URSA AIR Panel Alloy are used in the project.

Aiming for certified sustainability

Energy efficiency has been the main objective pursued throughout the project, from its conception to its execution. Many measures have been taken to maximize the energy savings and the good environmental performance of the building, e.g. LED lighting with own energy production sources in the form of photovoltaic solar energy. High efficiency air conditioning with energy recovery and a geothermal system ensure a great indoor climate. The new building is applying for the LEED Gold certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), which endorses the sustainability and energy efficiency measures implemented by those responsible for this intervention.

Key to the objective to reduce the building's energy demand as much as possible, was also the choice of the insulation materials. Having a good indoor climate without the need of the air conditioning systems running is saving further energy consumption. URSA's mineral glass wool and extruded polystyrene offered a fitting solution.

URSA products as a driver towards these goals

URSA materials were ideal for the LEED certification to which the planners aspired, as their composition contains a percentage of between 35 to 85 per cent recycled material and have a long useful life that makes them more sustainable. Besides the very good thermal performance of the material, the engineers also highlighted other aspects such as the acoustical insulation properties, the various certifications and the support from our URSA colleagues with technical data sheets and calculation tools.
