Meet today... Sanda Ionescu
As an Advisor in Process Engineering, Sanda monitors the daily Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) production process at Xella Romania's plant in Deva. As an artist she gives free rein to her feelings in her passion for painting and is thinking of contributing to the education of future artists through creative workshops.
How did this journey begin?
My journey at Xella started in 2017 when, after 26 years of working in the steel industry, I took a long hard look at myself and set out to avoid the professional trap that involuntarily throws you into a hard-to-avoid routine and create a new professional path.
Thus, I joined the Deva team as an Investment Specialist. It was a very good decision, which helped me develop both professionally and personally and changed my future. I joined an enthusiastic team, with whom I contributed to the modernization of equipment, machinery and the production process through extensive investment works. We constantly produce efficient, affordable and sustainable solutions.
What fascinates you about your job?
For a few months, my position at Xella has been that of Advisor Process engineering, a position that allows me to be in the middle of the action, to enjoy successes together with the production team, and to search together for solutions to overcome obstacles. Basically, my role, among other things, is to monitor the manufacturing process, energy and raw material consumption and time standards. We are a "big family" that has bonded together harmoniously and works as a team, and this shows in the results we achieve.
How did you discover your passion for painting?
My belief is that nothing in our life is accidental, every change comes at the right place and the right time.
I say this, because almost simultaneously to the change in my professional life, in 2017, destiny worked even harder for me and opened my path to painting. As a child I used to draw and paint, but I didn't follow an artistic career, on the contrary, for 30 years I hid that in a box of memories. I believe in destiny and I believe that my passion for color had to surface and make sense. Thus, 2017 also became the year of my debut in painting. It followed a path that reached maturity through the organization of two solo exhibitions in 2023, at the Hunedoara Art Gallery and at the Casa Radio Cluj Gallery and through invitations to art creation and art documentation camps.
How did you manage to combine your passion for painting and AAC production?
The passion and attention to detail that you must have in art was perfectly combined with the exigency and attention to detail that I have to have in the AAC production process. My profession in the field of engineering has not stopped me from giving color and shape to my life and to those around me through my art and by translating what I feel onto canvas. My paintings, in general, are executed in oil on canvas, many of them in palette knife, a technique that creates more emotion, energy, vibration and that I also like because it attracts the viewer more and makes him or her enter the universe created by me. The color in my life radiates into the lives of those around me, and this brings me joy and gives me energy, inspiration and confidence in everything I do.
My artworks have been enthusiastically received by my colleagues, who supported me at the openings of the exhibitions I have organized. The fact that they knew of my passion gave me the opportunity to personally contribute to the 'Let's talk safety" events in Deva and Oradea, with two paintings specially prepared for these events.
"Let's talk safety" is about safety as a team sport, about us as a family and about those around us, whom we protect and encourage to form a safety culture.
Up to this point my story as an artist and engineer has written itself - I am excited to see what the future will bring.
