In a world where resource efficiency and environmental responsibility are critical, Xella is leading the way with a fully integrated, sustainable value chain. True sustainability extends far beyond individual products, so we strive for a holistic approach:
● minimizing leftovers,
● reducing emissions,
● and maximizing circularity.
At every stage of our value chain, we consider long-term ecological and economic resilience.
The following steps illustrate clearly how we focus on responsible sustainability, from the energy that powers our production to the efficient reuse of materials at the end of their lifecycle.
1 Producing renewable energy
We explore and increase the use of renewable energy resources with a particular focus on solar power. This is already delivering energy to our plants.
2 Sourcing green energy
For the energy we purchase, we promote renewables by paying a premium for existing energy contracts in the form of Guarantees of Origin for renewable energies.
3 Optimizing product recipes
We are constantly developing recipes that consume fewer raw materials and generate less CO2e.
4 Using residues and returned cuttings in production
Our goal is to use every single ton of production leftovers. We have already made great strides at our Hillegom plant in the Netherlands, where no waste has been sent to landfill for two years.
5 Testing efficient modes of transportation
We already test alternative modes of transportation, such as switching from road to rail or from truck to ship. This has contributed to reducing transport costs and CO2e emissions.
6 Consulting & Digital Services
We are digitalizing processes to save time, labor, and costs while improving on-site safety and reducing building construction waste.
7 Construction Services
With our Construction Services, we provide both optimized productivity and the required quality standards by managing the installation of our solutions.
8 Sourcing AAC cuts from construction sites
We encourage our partners to return residues or cut-offs to us instead of sending them to landfills. We provide 'big bags' for the collection of clean, sorted AAC cut-offs from construction sites.
9 Recycling & responsible disposal of waste
All of our products are recyclable and can be reused as inputs for new Xella products. Our goal is to ensure that no AAC or CSU production leftovers are sent to landfills by 2030.
