Back in 2011, Xella became the first building materials manufacturer to receive Cradle-to- Cradle* certification for one of its products. And with the Ytong autoclaved aerated concrete block Energy+, we have a block in our range that has been awarded Platinum, the highest Cradle to Cradle certification. The reason: this insulating block for load-bearing exterior walls not only has particularly good moisture and heat regulation properties. It was also developed according to the principle of a closed and potentially infinite circular economy. This means that with it there is no waste. But Xella Denmark is now going one step further.

100 trees are planted per house

For every house built with Ytong Energy+, the global initiative “Growing Trees Network Foundation” plants 100 trees on behalf of Xella Denmark. This is made possible by a new partnership.
The Growing Trees Network is an independent institution that has been in existence since 2012. It is dedicatedly pursuing its goal of protecting drinking water and groundwater in Denmark as well as in Africa by planting trees. At the same time, they reduce CO2 and create recreational spaces for people and animals.
“For us, it's logical: we create buildings from sustainable building materials and make a further contribution to the environment and climate protection,” explains Fredrik Johansson, CEO Xella Scandinavia.

*The Cradle to Cradle certificate is limited in time, and was awarded to Xella at the time of the publication of the text. It has expired in the meantime.
