Student competition: Housing concepts of the near future
Xella CZ/SK is calling for the 26th International Student Competition, in which aspiring architects in the Czech Republic and Slovakia can submit their designs for the housing of tomorrow.
Xella CZ/SK is calling for the 26th International Student Competition, in which aspiring architects in the Czech Republic and Slovakia can submit their designs for the housing of tomorrow.
This year, the focus is on the sustainable development of housing for the year 2045. The task is to prepare an architectural-sociological study on housing for the generation of tomorrow. This can involve any form of housing – whether single apartments, apartments in apartment buildings or community housing, whether living on the water or underground, in the city or in the countryside.
The only thing that matters is that the design must be realistic for the year 2045. And it must be designed for a specific area in the Czech Republic: the northeastern part of the Moravian-Silesian region, a very diverse area that offers enough ideas for the location of the project: On the one hand, there are large cities, but also unused, post-industrial areas (created after coal mining), as well as valuable natural areas and large waters.
Design sustainable housing

"The theme idea came up while we were working last year. It occurred to us that today's students will be thinking about their own housing situation in the coming decades. They will then be able to look back at what kind of housing they developed in those days and whether their ideas were actually implemented, " says Peter Markovič, CEO of Xella CZ and Xella SK, explaining the motivation behind the assignment.
Students (alone or in working groups) from the fields of study architecture and civil engineering at technical and art colleges and universities in the Czech Republic or Slovakia can take part until February 21, 2021. A jury of experts will select three winners, who can look forward to cash prizes and a reputation for starting a career in architecture.
