The plant was established in 1978 as a state-owned production facility. On July 1, 2005, it came under the ownership of Xella. Over those 40 years, the plant has undergone a number of modernizations. In 2010, a new HDP 1200 press was installed to produce the Silka Tempo blocks, making Żabinko the first plant in Poland to offer this large-size system.
“Safe work, safe life” at the Żabinko plant
The plant in Żabinko is one of seven calcium silicate plants operating under the umbrella of Xella Polska. There has not been a single work accident there for more than 1,200 days. A record that is something to be proud of.
High standard of workplace safety
“For three years we haven’t had a single work accident. The key to this success is our workers, their commitment, common goal and willingness to help others in emergency situations. A good work environment and partnership awareness are also crucial. We hold integration events on regular basis to build an even stronger team. Our rule is: everyone is responsible for everyone else,” explains plant manager Michał Jankowiak.
To improve safety, it was necessary to adopt a new approach to work and develop the right habits. Żabinko has significantly improved its EHS standards (Environment, Health & Safety). This is partly due to the EHS policy of the entire Xella Group and the consistent implementation of all formal or legal requirements effective in Poland. The right attitude of management and the lack of tolerance for violations of EHS rules are also crucial. All these measures have contributed significantly to raising the EHS awareness of employees. Żabinko also makes extremely effective use of support from the EHS, Lean, and HR teams. Hand in hand, these four parties are achieving outstanding results and demonstrate the positive impact that practiced occupational safety has on everyday work.

Safety in the workplace is a top priority at Xella. We want our employees to go home from work every day healthy and unharmed. We illustrate this with our vision "Safe Work. Safe Life" and a long-term zero-accident strategy.
