Providing housing where it is needed

In 2020, the construction of one of the largest housing projects in Slovenia began. More than 4,000 m3 of Xella products are to be used for the creation of the “Pod Pekrsko gorco” neighborhood in Maribor.

18 May, 2021

To help solve the housing shortage in eastern Slovenia, a neighborhood is being built with several buildings that will include about 400 rental apartments. In addition to the rental apartments between 35 and 85 m2, an assisted living offer is planned, as well as a commercial section that will house stores and service providers. Parking spaces for residents will be available in underground garages.

Best solutions from a single source

There are many reasons for using a combination of Ytong, Silka and Multipor. Due to the high requirements for sound insulation, Silka calcium silicate units are used for the walls between the apartments and corridors, while Ytong blocks are used for the partition walls between the storage rooms. Multipor insulation panels with excellent fire protection properties are used on the ceiling for optimal thermal insulation of the upper floors above the unheated underground garages.

A proud achievement

“The Slovenian market is relatively small, so a project of this size makes us particularly proud. The cooperation with all partners involved was excellent from the very beginning. Our efforts to be selected for the project were successful not least because our experts, provided technical and professional support with excellent response times, thus convincing the decision-makers of the quality of Xella solutions,” explains Milan Černjak, authorized signatory and Sales Manager at Xella Slovenia. ”Good communication and coordination - from consulting in the planning phase to ensuring just-in-time deliveries of materials - additionally contribute to the success of this project.”

The construction of the “Pod Pekrsko gorco” quarter will take place in two stages. Now, the first stage is being finalized; work on the second stage has begun. The completion is planned for 2022.
