Xella continues to expand its market presence in Italy

Duisburg 25. May 2019. The Xella Group and Cementeria Costantinopoli, 100% owner of Atella's Doc Airconcrete, have agreed on a merger of their Italian AAC activities. The aim is to merge Atella's Doc Airconcrete with Xella Italia, a company of the Xella Group. The planned transaction is still subject to the expiration of the legal and contractual deadlines. The final closing of the transaction is expected in July 2019.

Atella’s Doc Airconcrete is an AAC plant in southern Italy with state-of-the-art production facilities and a capacity of approx. 200 km3. The plant, which only went into operation in 2017, is the ideal regional addition to the existing Xella plants in northern Italy. With the intended expansion of the existing production capacity for premium AAC products, Xella underpins its leading market position for AAC in Italy. “The planned incorporation would allow us to optimize our presence on the Italian market and continuous development of AAC in the external wall market. Our customers would also benefit from this,” says Marco Paolini, CEO of Xella Italia. The merger will take the form of an exchange of shares between Xella Italia and the owner of Doc Airconcrete.

“Our strategic focus lies on Europe and the neighboring regions. In these markets, we want to consolidate and further expand our leading market position – through operational growth, but also through acquisitions,” says Dr. Jochen Fabrititus, CEO of Xella Group.

After the transaction, Xella would be represented not only by the AAC plant in the south of Italy but also by two further production sites in Pontenure in the north of Italy. In March of this year, a new Xella mortar plant was opened alongside the existing AAC plant. Built to Industry 4.0 standard, the plant has a production capacity of 17.5 tons/hour and meets the highest energy efficiency and environmental standards. With the planned expansion of its product portfolio in Italy, Xella would further expand its leading position in Europe as a solution provider of AAC products also geographically.
