Running Together, Giving Back

Through their participation in charity runs, our colleagues from Romania and the Czech Republic not only raised funds for important social initiatives but also strengthened their team spirit.

Xella Romania at the Bucharest Half Marathon

Xella Romania’s team laced up their running shoes to take part in the Bucharest Half Marathon alongside long-time partner United Way Romania. The collaboration between the two has brought up several charitable initiatives. You can read about the most recent ones in Xella’s Sustainability Report 2024

This time their participation supports the "Learn to be healthy" program, which promotes nutrition education, educational activities on fair play, anti-bullying and positive behavior trainings and access to sports training for children in need.

Sebastian Dima, Supply Chain Manager & Head of Customer Delivery at Xella Romania, helped the team to prepare for the run and shared his reflections on the event: “It was an amazing experience for all of us! Running together was not just about fitness or competition, it was about building stronger connections with our colleagues and making a positive impact in our community. We’re proud to support a cause that helps young people gain the skills they need for a better future.”

On the positive influences the run generated, he continues: “By running and raising funds, we were able to contribute to this important cause and show that we care about giving back. We are proud to combine our team spirit with charity work, and we hope to inspire others to do the same. Let’s keep running towards a better future, together!” Sebastian Dima added.

Xella Czech Republic supports children’s hospice

Employees of Xella Czech Republic took part in a charity run as well, which focused on the support of House for Juliet, a children’s hospice in Brno that provides medical, psychological, and social care to children with serious or life-threatening conditions. The organization also offers support services for affected families, including palliative care and assistance at home.

Kristina Mrkvica, HR Business Partner for Xella Czech Republic, took part in the run: "It was more than just a physical challenge, it was a heartfelt mission. Supporting a children's hospice like this one reminds us of the strength and resilience of families facing unimaginable hardships. These children and their loved ones deserve not only medical care but also compassion, dignity, and every possible assistance in their daily life. By running together as a team, we showed that when we unite for a good cause, we can make a real difference. I’m proud to be part of a company that stands behind such meaningful initiatives."

Thirteen colleagues ran a combined distance of 127.5 kilometers, helping raise CZK 13,000 for the cause. By joining forces, the Xella team not only raised funds but also awareness for the vital work of House for Juliet.
