Xella acquires majority stake in Serbian producer of calcium silicate units Rapid Apatin

Important step in expanding Xella's market presence in a growing region in the northwest of Serbia

The Xella Group acquires around about 70% of the shares in the listed calcium silicate block manufacturer Rapid Apatin in Serbia as part of a voluntary takeover process.

Rapid Apatin's calcium silicate unit plant is located in the emerging region of northwestern Serbia, close to the borders of Croatia and Hungary. Opened in 1982, the calcium silicate plant with a capacity of about 30,000 m3 offers the best conditions to meet the growing demand for affordable and sustainable housing in the markets of Western Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia, where Silka calcium silicate units are known as a reliable and safe product.

Calcium silicate units are a mineral building material and enable the construction of energy-efficient, sustainable and long-lasting buildings, making an important contribution to climate and environmental protection. Calcium silicate units are non-flammable and have the best sound insulation properties, enabling safe and healthy living and working.
