Xella Czech Republic: Celebrating Young Architects
In June, the national round of the 18th Xella High School Competition took place at the Sladovná museum in Písek. Students from secondary technical schools showcased their architectural skills by working on construction projects ranging from family houses to apartment buildings and civil structures. Eighteen projects, selected from regional rounds, advanced to the finals, where a jury of Xella representatives and local architects evaluated the entries based on technical accuracy, use of the Ytong construction system, and overall architectural design.
Tomáš Kocman from the Secondary School of Construction in Brno emerged as the winner in the family house category, earning CZK 10,000 for both himself and his school. In the apartment buildings and civil construction category, Štěpánka Láníková from the Liberec Secondary School of Civil Engineering claimed the top prize. The competition, which has been supported by Xella since its inception, continues to be a significant platform for nurturing young architectural talent in the Czech Republic.
